About BCLI

BCLI Construction & Engineering is a civil firm operating out of Bath Settlement, Berbice, serving regions across coastal Guyana.

Our story

BCLI was founded by Bickram Kowchai, a master civil engineer who has spent two decades planning, designing, and executing infrastructure projects across Guyana. The firm has grown around the work itself, not around a marketing story, which means almost everything BCLI does was earned on a site.

The leadership team is split between deep technical engineering experience and three plus decades of entrepreneurial and sourcing experience. One side knows how to build it. The other knows how to run the operation around it.

We work across coastal Guyana, from Region 2 through Region 6, with most of the work concentrated along the West Coast Berbice corridor and the Demerara stretch.

Leadership

Bickram Kowchai

Founder, Master Civil Engineer

Bickram Kowchai is the founder of BCLI Construction & Engineering and a master civil engineer with twenty plus years of experience in the planning, design, and execution of infrastructure and construction projects throughout Guyana. He has worked across a wide range of project types, with structural integrity and field efficiency at the center of how he approaches the work. His method on site is direct: check the drawings against the conditions, then build to what the drawings say.

Lilawati Ahmed(Leta)

Chief Operating Officer

Lilawati Ahmed, also known as Leta, was born in Guyana, South America, and is currently residing in New York, USA. A Guyanese-American entrepreneur for three plus decades, she built her career in the New York City garment industry, where she founded and operated two garment manufacturing companies. Her experience in global sourcing took her well beyond garment-related work, with extensive travel to pursue business opportunities across multiple sectors. She brings years of management and advisory experience to BCLI's operations, along with her active membership in the New York Women Chamber of Commerce.

How we work

Quality

Structural integrity is the first conversation, not the last. Drawings get checked against site conditions. The work is built to outlast the wet season, not just pass inspection.

Safety

Every site BCLI runs has a documented safety plan. Workers go home in the same condition they came in.

Reliability

Projects land on the dates BCLI commits to. When something changes, the client hears about it from us first.

Where we work

BCLI's primary corridor runs along the West Coast Berbice and East Berbice-Corentyne regions, with regular project work in Demerara-Mahaica and the surrounding regions. Inquiries from elsewhere in the country are welcome.
